The Market AtlasDozens of emerging markets. No two quite the same.

Cross a border and suddenly, things change. What’s in someone’s wallet, what they reach for at checkout, even what feels completely normal there might surprise you from the outside.

Africa
& the Middle East

Start in Nigeria and you’ll see bank transfers everywhere. Head to Kenya and mobile money takes over. South Africa is moving fast on A2A, while Egypt has its own mix of local cards, wallets and cash. Further east, Saudi Arabia is overwhelmingly digital, while Türkiye still has a strong relationship with cards and installments.

Asia

You don’t have to travel far for the picture to change. India has UPI. Thailand has PromptPay. GCash is on almost every phone in the Philippines, while multiple wallets lead online in Vietnam. In Pakistan, millions of people have been brought into digital payments lately, and across Indonesia, one QR standard is connecting millions to merchants.

Latin America

If there’s one thing this region makes clear, it’s that cards are only part of the story. Brazil has Pix. Peru has Yape. Colombia now has Bre-B. Mexico still has a place for cash at online checkout. Argentina has embraced wallets and A2A. And in Chile, bank transfers are a growing alternative to cards. And installments have been around here long before BNPL came along.
