A vision for the future of payments at Argentina Payments Forum
Marcos Picardo, dLocal’s Head of Global Partners & Enablement - OPS, recently shared his vision for the evolution of payments through 2030 at Argentina Payments Forum, hosted by J.P. Morgan. The discussion explored changes that could reshape how individuals and businesses manage their finances.
In the coming years, payments are likely to become nearly invisible, instant, interoperable, and seamlessly embedded in the user experience. One of the most profound shifts, however, could take place in Treasury: moving from daily close operations to managing liquidity and payments in real time, around the clock, explained Picardo.
The conversation also considered a future in which AI agents carry out an increasing number of transactions on behalf of individuals and businesses. This raises important questions about the safeguards, boundaries, and accountability required for every transaction.
Cross-border interoperability will be another key challenge: moving money between countries and currencies as smoothly as a domestic transfer, while preserving the traceability required by regulators and finance teams. This evolution brings together instant payment systems, such as Brazil’s Pix, new settlement options such as stablecoins, and the use of AI to prevent fraud and support reconciliation.
For dLocal, the challenge is to connect these experiences to the local payment rails in each market while complying with applicable licensing requirements and regulatory frameworks. Picardo thanked J.P. Morgan for the opportunity and the conversation.
